CAITLYN GINAVEN
Hi. My name is Caitlyn Ginaven. I am a senior at Kankakee Valley High school. I took a class called creative writing (it's exactly as it seems). On this website you will find a variety of different styles of writing.
About me(:
I have been very active in sports since I was a little girl. I have played softball since I was three years old. I hit my first home run when I was in tee ball ( I was suppose to move up, but they had to many players) and ran the bases backwards! In fourth grade I started playing basketball! I played both AAU travel basketball and travel softball at some point in my life. When I write stories about the sports I have played, I try to share my knowledge. I have many coaches to thank for the sport writings I have done in my past, since they were the ones who shared their own knowledge with me.
I have a crazy family! I live with my mom who is an amazing mother! She is my best friend and I am sad that she can't live in my dorm with me when I go to college in the fall! (haha) I also have a father who is currently liveing in Hawaii! He has another child, a son named Colton who I adore. Just like any child, he is crazy, but no matter the distance, he will always love his sissy. I'm excited to be able to visit them this summer! Family is something that is very important to me and I basically do everything with them!
One of my favorite family memories is the time I went to Tennessee with my mom, grandma, grandpa, Aunt Candy, and cousins, Britni and Paige. Paige was pregnant at the time! Well, we went grocery shopping the first day. As we started to head back to the cabins in the mountains it started raining. We had seven people in a seven-car van filled with groceries. As we tried to go up the mountains to our log cabin, the van started sliding backwards! We were all freaking out and my grandpa was driving and his blood pressure started raising due to the stressful situation! My Aunt Candy saved the day for me just by asking (nagging) my grandpa to let us out to walk! When he said we could get out we all tried to pile out! The only people left in the van was my grandpa, grandma, and mom. Aunt Candy, Britni, pregnant Paige, and I had to find our way through the mountains to our cabin where we had only been one time! Along the way, in the pouring rain we ended up finding two stray dogs who joined us in the journey! By the time we got to the place we called home for a week, we were drenched! We gave the dogs who followed us some food and water and all went to take hot showers (even though we practically had one already--a shower, that is!). Everyone who wasn't out in the rain started cooking dinner! That night when we gathered in the living room we found a stone with a saying on it that said "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning how to dance in the rain!" which we interpreted as walking in the rain! I think it rained every time that we went somewhere and returned to the cabin. Aunt Candy and I walked to the cabin each time! Even though it wasn't the most ideal vacation it was the most memorable!
In some of my stories you will find that I'm writing about a dysfunctional or close knit family, it's based on my life experience with alterations due to my imagination!
It is sad to say I am graduating this year and moving away from my family, but I am excited for the new adventures I will take on! I will still have plenty of time to make memories with my family, but in a sense, I need to learn to grow up and be on my ownl! I am in love with the college I am going to and also the career that has found me! I am going into elementary and special education! Obviously I am not going into that career for the money, but for the children and teaching! I have been lucky enough to be in a classroom observing a teacher for the past two years and I know that it is what I am meant to do! My family is glad that I have found something that I love to do and are also excited for me to go and get a degree in teaching!

Creative Writing as a Class!
Creative Writing is an awesome class! It is really laid back in the sense that you have plenty of time to get your work done if you have good time management skills! Our teacher will assign a general type of writing like short story or poetry. Then you begin by coming up with ideas and see where it takes you! It's pretty awesome because you may think you know what you are going to write and then something will come to mind that is even better!
Before Creative Writing, I generally would write poetry. Of course I would write papers for homework and everything, but it took forever to get it going! I also wanted to write a short story, but it takes me forever to start writing it! One thing I learned this year is that you should just start typing whatever comes to mind because I have learned abut "editing for a reason".
Under the tab I titled blog, you will find a bunch of short entries! This was the difficult part in the class! My teacher would show us a picture or tell us our boundaries of what she expected and you had ten to fifteen minutes to come up with something! To me this was really difficult because once I come up with an idea I like to elaborate on it, so I would find myself quickly writing something in the last three to four minutes! It has gotten a lot easier since the beginning of the class to write something about a picture and I've gotten a lot faster!
I found out from this class that I do enjoy writing short stories A LOT! I am still currently writing the short story that I have posted on here! I think it is crazy that I had such a small idea of what I was going to write and now I have two hundred ideas of what could happen! It is truly amazing what our brains can do! The only thing that I wish that we did more of in creative writing is writing poetry!
Some people would think that The Book Worm Society is a weird name for a blog site, but I learned differently! All great writers need to read at some level. I have learned what type of style I like to write by reading! Once you read a book and you love it, it inspires you to write something so great that other people can get inspired! So if your not a huge writer, think about your favorite piece of writing and think what is it that makes this so good? Then try to create something! I guarantee it will be one of your best pieces of writing!
I think it is an awesome idea that we have this site so we can come back and review what we have wrote. It is a memory that will last forever! I also think it is great way to put your writing out there! I mean we all write things, but honestly how many people see it? Two? Three tops? Well putting it on the internet people can read your hard work and I am thankful for that! I'm thankful I got to be in creative writing because I really learned a lot!
